Lost Boys Research
I imagined the lost boys donned these costumes for 2 reasons. One because Peter was a fox spirit, they treated him like a deity and wanted to emulate him in every way. The second was to prey on the Pirates' superstitious nature and fear of the Neverland island, which was teeming with spirits, demons, and creatures of all sorts. They would always have the upper hand.
