Kitsune
In my research, I came across descriptions of the Kitsune. Fox spirits common in Japanese folklore. Stories depict them as intelligent beings and as possessing magical abilities that increase with their age and wisdom. Foremost among these is having the ability to shapeshift. The Kitsune are known to be mischievous tricksters, often preying on prideful samurai. (Perfect for a Peter character!) Because of their potential power and influence, some people make offerings to them as a deity, the Lost Boys in this case.
